What to do once you’ve secured an Order of Protection

Once you’ve filed and received a Order of Protection, stay safe by making multiple copies of the Order of Protection and proof of service. Show the police a copy. If the restrained person has not yet been served, ask an officer to do so.

Keep another copy of the order on your person constantly and give a copy to anyone else protected by the order. Also keep copies at your workplace, residence, and any place off-limits to the restrained person.

If a violation occurs, documentation is essential. Write down and gather proof of what happened so that authorities can prevent further harm.
